Mick in NJ Studio

It seems Mick spent at least an extra day in NJ after the Chiller Expo to help out a local musician. (Was this arranged at the signing? Greg Lewis came to the Expo with Bobby Whitlock's manager. If so, I think that's fantastic.) The following article appeared in yesterday's Record. (The Record is a local newspaper in NE NJ.) It was a small article that accompanied a larger piece about a local area musician named Peter Carp. Here it is.

Ex-Stones Guitarist Lends Some Help By: Barry Gramlich

Peter Karp wants to let everyone know who's been dropping by Bennett Studios lately.

On April 28, former Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor put his prints on three of Karp's new tunes: "Her and My Blues," a transcendental electric folk-blues number; "I'm Not Giving Up," an inspirational soul-blues number a la Otis Redding; and "The Turning Point," a story about the crossroads of life reminiscent of the Stones' "Wild Horses."

Taylor still tours but is mostly remembered for his stint with Mick Jagger and Co. from 1969 to 1974. It is generally recognized as the Stones' strongest period which produced the albums "Let It Bleed," "Sticky Fingers," and "Exile on Main Street."

"We are planning to work together again in the future," says Karp. "He is an incredible musician, and I feel quite fortunate to have him in my corner. As a songwriter he compared me to Doyle Bramhall."

Others helping out on the record are Bobby Whitlock (keyboards, vocals) and Kim Carmel (saxophone, vocals). Whitlock co-founded Derek & the Dominos with Eric Clapton, and Carmel was a singer-songwriter and producer for Delaney and Bonnie.

[The article was accompanied with a picture of Mick and Karp in the studio. Mick is sitting in a chair with what appears to be an acoustic guitar in his lap; his left hand approaching or leaving the fretboard. He is looking at Karp who is sitting to his left in a stuffed chair. A guitar is leaning on each side of the chair and Karp is sitting forward in the chair leaning towards Mick to hear what he has to say.]
